Pronation and Over Pronation - What is it?

Pronation is a normal part of walking. Pronation occurs when foot rolls in towards the mid line of the body. It is the bodies way of adapting to uneven surfaces and also serves to absorb some of the shock associated with walking and running.

Over pronation occurs when the foot rolls in too far. When the foot rolls in an abnormal amount it places extra stress and strain on the joints, muscles, ligaments and bones of the lower limb.

Over time with the repetitive nature of walking, over pronation can cause over use injuries to the feet.
