How do orthotics help your feet?

Injuries and pain in our feet tend to occur when muscles of the lower leg are working in an imbalanced way. Feet that over or under pronate tend to favour muscles in one side of the foot over the other. Orthotics work to increase pressure on different parts of the foot, which works to reduce the load on the muscles in those areas.

Orthotics also work to reduce load under the heel and ball of the foot by raising the height of the arch. This increases the area of pressure which better helps to spread the load. When fitted correctly, orthotics improve the function of the foot by balancing the muscle load and reducing peak forces under the foot.

An appointment with a podiatrist may reveal whether orthotics would be beneficial for improving your foot function. Call our clinic on (07) 3823 5423 to see on of podiatrists.
